Ketotifen is a medication that is primarily used to treat allergic conditions such as asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and atopic dermatitis (eczema). It is available in various forms, including oral tablets and eye drops.

Ketotifen works by blocking the release of certain chemicals in the body that are involved in the allergic response. It acts as a mast cell stabilizer, preventing the release of histamine and other inflammatory substances. Histamine is responsible for causing symptoms like itching, sneezing, and watery eyes in allergic reactions.

In asthma, ketotifen helps to reduce airway inflammation and hypersensitivity, making it easier to breathe. In allergic rhinitis, it helps relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and itching. When used as eye drops, ketotifen can alleviate symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, including redness, itching, and watering of the eyes.
